Work Opportunities
Students are encouraged to join the Association of Illustrators and utilise staff advice, particularly in relation to live projects and collaborations. Students across all levels are active in gaining valuable work experience through commissions, competitions, arranging art events and exhibitions. Students also regularly produce posters and general promotional materials for other courses including Acting and Fashion.
Student Successes in the 2010/2011 academic year.
Level 06
Finn O’Brien, Ben Brooks, Lucy Evans and Darren Cranmer all reached the regional finals in the Lloyds TSB ‘Art of Nurture’ competition. Darren Cranmer’s work was also featured on the promotional material for the competition.
Jessica Holt won the national student competition to design a T-shirt for ‘Bombay Bicycle Club’
Maria Heritage was selected for the exhibit in a European Student Survey of drawing in ‘FID 2011′ in Paris. Her work was included in the supporting publication.
Alexandra Hook-Hultgren was selected to exhibit in a group exhibition at the Rag Factory in London. His work was also selected to be included in Dazed and Confused magazine.
Robin Elderfield was comissioned to illustrate two lions for the ‘Lions Project’ in Bournemouth town center.
Lauren Scott contributed to the Mulberry Fasion Show at London Fashion Week 2011, constructing sets and props.
Clare Twomey won the ‘Ideas Tap – Leftovers’ competition.
Level 05
Rachel Elsome was taken on by Art Works Licensing Agency.
Rachael Dinage was showcased by ’5oup’ as ‘Illustrator of the Month’
Jack Reynolds, Lauren Squires, Calum Torbett, and James Hastie worked on projects through their ‘Faux Life’ illustration collective. These inlcuded live art events at local venues, Beach Break Festival, and Pepe Jeans.
Jack Molyneux exhibited in This is, Up in the Air and Nautical exhibitions at Sixty Million Postcards. Jack also designed an i-pod case for Pink Bogo Deisgn.
Kate Rowlands illustrated a wall at Frog Bros comic book store.
Maria Midttun exhibited at ‘Crayon’ exhibition in the Moon Tree Gallery, Boscombe. Maria also had a solo exhibition ‘Blystift’ at Kvarteret in Bergen, Norway. Maria has also has a sketchbook included in ‘The Sketchbook Project’ Art House CO-OP touring exhibition across the United States.
Louise Bing, David Merta, and Louise Wyatt also exhibited in the ‘Crayon’ exhibition in the Moon Tree Galery – Boscombe. David Merta also had 4 Illustrations published in ‘Teen Book’ Magazine.
A large number of Level 05 students also exhibited throughout the year in a rolling ‘Bespoke’ exhibition at Cafe Boscanova.
Level 04
Level 04 students exhibited in various exhibitions including ‘This is’ and ‘Up in the Air’ at Sixty Million Postcards. Jannette Howard organised her own exhibition ‘Summer Art Show’ in Poole. Robin Mackenzie presented a 3D illustration piece at Gaunt House Music Festival. Matt Waudby entered work to the 2011 International Print Biennale.
