Meet the team

Phil Beards BA (Hons), MA, FHEA

Phil Beards is a Principal Lecturer in Digital Production and leads the Arts University College at Bournemouth Digital Media Production courses. He began working with Digital Media in 1984, including periods as an award winning sound producer, video producer and interactive designer. He has spent the last 28 years teaching design and media and in 2009 was invited to become an Adobe Education Leader.

Liam Birtles Senior Lecturer BA (Hons), MSc, PGCE

Artist (digital), 15 years experience exploring creative practice and digital technology, started as an Research Assistant in the 90′s exploring the use of Virtual Reality for artists with the NVRCAD project, now working as Nomethod and as part of Squidsoup. Current work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and includes ‘Inbetween’, ‘Glowing Pathfinder Bugs’ and the ‘Ocean of Light’ shown at Siggraph, BFI, Soma Gallery (Korea), Russell Coates, Kinetic Arts Fair (P3), Technofolies (Canada). Liam has recently returned from showing ‘Bugs’ at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.

Amanda Stephenson BA (Hons), MA. 0.5 Senior Lecturer

A film, media and art theorist who has, over the last four years at the AUCB, taught across film, photography, costume and interactive media as a visiting tutor before becoming a permanent member of digital media production team. Amanda is currently working towards a PhD in film studies, with a focus on children’s reception of film in Britain. Other research interests include pedagogical study into the integration of theory and practice.

Technical Staff

The course is also supported by a Technician Demonstrator who provides a vast amount of knowledge and technical support for the students and staff on the course.
