Digital Media Production FAQ

1) What will I learn on the course?

The course offers a very broad approach to digital media production, including digital video and sound production, 3D modelling, image compositing, streaming technologies, Post-Production Techniques, Performance Video, Mobile Technologies and Interaction Design.

2) What makes this course different from others?

The course offers a diverse approach to the discipline, students may choose to work on any aspect of digital media to develop their own style of working In the third year students write and develop their own briefs tailored to their own development needs and career aspirations.

3) What do you need to see in my portfolio?

Tutors will be looking for applicants who can demonstrate their motivation for the course and be able to demonstrate a high level of skills and an experimental approach to the application of digital media.

Tutors will be looking at an applicant’s portfolio for evidence of experimentation and development of the applicant’s own ideas. Your’ practical skills and ability to think conceptually combined with your commercial awareness will enable you to apply creativity and originality to working out practical solutions.

You should bring with you as much relevant work as possible and any certificates that you mentioned in your application form. We are particularly interested in examples of two or three dimensional art work, video, photography, graphic design, web design, CD-ROM, image manipulation, DTP work and work produced on computer.

4) Can I go on to further study?

Yes, you may apply to our MA Interactive Media course which will support advanced artists and designers who wish to develop and refine their practice in and through a wide range of digital media.

5) What are the employment prospects?

Current employment prospects are excellent and there is presently a high demand from industry for graduates with skills in digital media. Graduates have found employment in Post-Production, magazine publishing, multimedia design, iPhone App development, Games Design, web design, digital compositing for film and video, live performance and lighting design and pop promo production. The course prepares students with a broad range of essential skills and then allows them to develop a digital portfolio aimed at a specialist area of their own choice.
