Industry Links

The course maintains regular links with the costume industry and has a panel of advisors (the Industry Liaison Group) who meet with course staff to discuss new innovations, curriculum and achievement to ensure that the course continues to offer relevant studies. Our collaborators herald from a number of specialist costume/set backgrounds including the National Theatre; the BBC; various freelance designers; the RSC; the ROH; The Lighthouse, Poole; Forest Forge Theatre Company amongst others. The course is supported by a number of visiting tutors from regional and national companies who offer lectures in current industry practices.

Honorary Fellows

Linda Mattock

Linda is an award winning costume designer with extensive experience of design and art practice, education and training. She has achieved industry recognition for her work and was awarded a BAFTA for the Costume Design of ‘Poirot’ in 1986. Linda is a consultant for the BBC Design Trainee Scheme and remains passionate to help and support young artists and designers.

Carol Lingwood

As Head of Costume at the National Theatre – where, amongst other shows, she was responsible for ‘The History Boys’ on both stage and screen – and with an extensive theatre background including working at the Royal Opera House, Carol has been an invaluable source of knowledge and her support to this course has been invaluable. Carol has provided many work placements for students over the years, for which we at the AUCB are extremely grateful.

See Work Placements for other relevant industry links.

Industry Liaison Group (ILG)

The Industry Liaison Group is a group which comprises members of the course team and significant external expertise, including major employers and staff from accrediting organisations. The ILG meets at least once each year but, more importantly, supports regular contact between the course team and representatives from industry and professionals.

The ILG informs curriculum development, and offer professional advice on developments within the discipline. This enables the University College to ensure that courses continue to be professionally relevant, and to produce graduates who are able to meet the changing demands of the creative industries.

The ILG has no formal powers, and does not approve the course or its outcomes. It advises the course team on the profession, and employer requirements, to ensure that graduates are well prepared. However, the course team retains responsibility for the course, as approved by the University College, which also has to meet the national requirements for academic honours or foundation degrees.

Industry specialists who are interested in participating in the ILG for this course should contact the Course Leader – Rebecca Pride on rpride@aucb.ac.uk
