Back to where it all began – explore this fascinating genre of photography
We have re-introduced our darkroom course to provide you with the knowledge of shooting on film and to provide those who have missed out on this key skill, the art of printing.
The University College is the only venue in the South West that has access to an extensive range of equipment associated with black and white printing. If you have completed Photography 1, or have a good understanding of your manual camera then we would highly recommend this course.
We will teach you the craft of traditional black and white photography, from capture, processing and printing. You will cover the basic fundamentals of black and white through to the more advanced techniques utilised in the making of exhibition-quality prints.
Taking place in our professionally equipped air-conditioned darkrooms, the course runs over ten evenings, and covers topics such as resin-coated and fibre-based variable contrast papers, dodging and burning, pre-flashing, and archival processing.
Only available for up to 10 students, places are limited to enable each participant access to their own enlarger, providing the opportunity to combine observation of particular demonstrations, with the chance to put techniques into practice individually.
